Squirrel & Hollow Log House

Squirrel & Hollow Log House

This pattern is for a hollow, opening log house as well as a squirrel to live inside it with all the necessary furnishings! The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. You will need: Yarn of your choice. I used a variety of aran weight yarns (this is equivalent to worsted weight) and my finished log house measures approximately 18cm tall to the roof & 26cm tall to the tip of the leaves. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn throughout the entire pattern. You will need the following colours: Dark Brown – I used Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran in shade Barley (approx. 470m). Medium Brown – I used Stylecraft Special Aran in shade Mocha (approx. 47m). Beige – I used Stylecraft Special Aran in shade Camel (approx. 128m). Burnt Orange – I used James C Brett Aztec Aran in shade AL14 (approx. 39m). Dark Green – I used Stylecraft Special Aran in shade Green (approx. 65m). Light Green – I used Stylecraft Special Aran in shade Meadow (approx. 15m). Cream – I used Stylecraft Special Aran in shade Cream (approx. 18m). Red – I used Stylecraft Special Aran in shade Lipstick (approx. 18m). Yellow – I used Stylecraft Special Aran in shade Saffron (approx. 21m). Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. You will also need: A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen – I used a 4mm hook. A small amount of toy stuffing (for the branch, squirrels, toadstool pillow & acorns). Finer yarn or thread in black, beige, red & dark green for adding the details. 3 sheets of plastic canvas. I used Trimits 7 count plastic canvas sheets that were 26cm x 33cm (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches). The ‘7 count’ means that the plastic has 7 holes per inch – a higher count means more holes which results in a thinner, more flexible canvas. Get a 7 count canvas if you can as this is fairly thick and sturdy. 2 small buttons for fastening the log and the front door (and a needle and thread with which to attach them). 1 very small button – this is just for decoration to look like a door handle on the front door but it isn’t actually functional. Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a few stitch markers. You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
